Reedley's Adventurous Teen Night

THE THEME: FEAR FACTOR

Ice buckets, raw eggs, and blindfolds—are items you wouldn’t except to see helping teens stay connected to mentors. Our Reedley Club had an adventurous time with law enforcement at their last Teen Night. The theme was based around the hit TV show, Fear Factor.

Our ongoing relationship with Fresno County Law Enforcement has not wavered. Their involvement with our teens has been inspiring. This program is made possible by a generous grant that allows us to engage teens during the late afternoon hours when most crimes occur. Clubs offer teens a safe haven to avoid gangs and stay clear of risky behaviors in this life skills program. These programs are a highlight for our Club teens because they are fun, engaging, and empower young people to establish boundaries and learn decision-making skills.

Teen Nights provide teens with an opportunity to create connections with each other and local police officers. These nights can include activities such as cooking, movie nights, sports activities, paint nights or hosting a talent showcase, to name a few favorites.

In Reedley’s case, Fear Factor was their choice of fun for the evening. According to Rene Alatorre, Reedley Club Unit Director, they played an ice bucket challenge in where teens and police officers competed in a game of tolerance— each holding their hands in buckets of ice for as long as they could. Other games they played were “Food Roulette” and “Name the Mystery Item.” Needless to say, our members had fun showcasing their creativity and the police officers were grateful to be a part of it.

“One officer also gave the teens a tour of his vehicle and talked to them about being in law enforcement. They asked a lot of questions and some are interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. It was a great Teen Night,” said Rene.
