Alumni Gives Back! Free Haircuts given at Zimmerman Club

Nevin Gomez is a Zimmerman Boys & Girls Club Alumnus who has decided to give back to the Club that gave so much to him as a teenager.  He decided to bring his hair cutting skills to the Club, offering haircuts to all the members.

Nevin was a member from age 13 to 18. The Club is where his passion for owning his own business was ignited. He participated in sports and made many friends. The relationship he made with his mentor, Jermaine Lewis remains to this day. Jermaine is the Program Director at the Zimmerman Club.

“Some parents can’t afford haircuts so I asked Nevin if he ever thought of coming to the Club. Turns out Nevin has wanted to volunteer for some time,” said Jermaine.

After graduating high school, Nevin pursued a career as a barber and now owns his own business at Shaw and Blackstone Avenue in Fresno.

“The Boys & Girls Club is a special place for me. It kept me out of trouble as a teenager and I wanted to give back,” said Nevin, “I don’t know what every kid is going through but I know their neighborhood. That’s enough to make me want to serve.”

Nevin and Jermaine organized his visit on an ordinary day in August. So many members were in need of a haircut that they stayed after hours to make sure they all received what they needed. It is moments like this and adults like these that give families hope and give opportunities to members for a great future—Nevin is a testament to that.
