25 years ago, the Del Rey Boys & Girls Club staff decided to have an Easter Egg Hunt for the kids coming to their Club. They hid 100 eggs in the park and had a great time bonding with members. Little did they know, the event would catch the attention of multiple community members wanting to help put a smile on kid’s faces during Easter. Fast forward to 2022--the Del Rey staff hosted over 200 people and 7 vendors at their Annual Easter Event. The community hid 5,000 eggs in the same park where it all started.

Easter at the Club has grown tremendously because community partners like Shine the Light Ministries, POM Wonderful, Cruising for Jesus Church, local teachers, parents, and the City of Del Rey have contributed to hosting this event. This year, POM Wonderful provided 200 hot dogs, signature juices, and gifts for our members. Cruising for Jesus Church provided live music and a car show. Events like this give back to the residents of Del Rey, serve the youth in surrounding areas, and the community gets excited about what Boys & Girls Clubs are doing.

“This event has been getting bigger and bigger every year. This year was the biggest event we have had in 25 years. Families were happy to be back and see familiar faces mentoring their kids,” said Rudy Matcham, Del Rey Unit Director.

Del Rey’s Annual Easter Event took place on Good Friday (a tradition) at the Del Rey Park & Softball Fields from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
