2nd Annual Women's Conference
The Selma Club hosted their Second Annual Women’s Conference on Friday, October 6, 2023. This conference is designed to inspire girls and young women to fight stereotypes, be brave, and dream about their futures. The world in complicated, but Clubs help kids navigate through struggles they may have with insecurities, isolation, depression, and bullying.. Unit Director Rubie Torres, invited five inspirational female professionals to come speak at the conference in hopes that it would ignite change for young people.
“My wish is for our members to hear stories from women in our community who have overcome adversity because they need to be inspired right now. They need to know that they can do it too,” said Rubie.
Members heard extraordinary stories from Yesenia Delgado (professional baker), Jamie Harris (English Teacher at Selma High School), Jessica Sanchez (Social Worker), Pricilla Moreno (Health & Nutrition Counselor), and Kristin Saldivar (Boys & Girls Clubs Chief Operating Officer). Each guest speaker shared their life journey with Club members and gave them an opportunity to ask questions.
“I think it is important for kids to know it is okay to step out of your comfort zone and do something brave—something for yourself. We all have the power to be who we want to be. We just have to know our value and take opportunities as they come,” said one of the conference speakers.
Parents were grateful for the learning opportunities their children had that day and Rubie was proud of the questions asked by her members. Questions meant they were engaged and engaged youth means hopes for more Great Futures.
The Second Annual Women’s Conference was held at the Selma Pioneer Village Recreation Center. Multiple Clubs were in attendance including Zimmerman, Sanger, Mendota, and the East Fresno Club.
