The Ken & Muriel Quenzer Scholarship
The inaugural Ken & Muriel Quenzer Scholarship was awarded to Jacklyn Kulow, a member of the Sanger Boys & Girls Club. On August 10, 2021, Jacklyn was recognized as the first Quenzer Scholarship winner. In addition to the scholarship award she received a new laptop, and William Jessup University gear. In addition to the Ken and Muriel Quenzer Scholarship, Jacklyn received a full-ride to William Jessup University starting in the fall of 2022.
Ken Quenzer is the president Emeritus of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fresno County and his wife Muriel Quenzer have been loyal supporters for over 50 years. Ken’s vision continues at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Fresno County that every young person matters and deserves opportunities to follow their dreams.
“I want to thank Kim [Sanger Unit Director] for letting me come to the Club whenever I want and encouraging me to get better at my craft—basketball. I’ve learned a lot from her,” said Jacklyn Kulow. “I also want to thank everyone who supported me and Mr. and Mrs. Quenzer for giving me this amazing opportunity.” A small group of friends and family gathered for the ceremony. Cake and refreshments were shared and The Sanger Scene was present. An introduction was given by Michael Goldfarb, Board Chair of BGCFC.
“In 2008 we celebrated our 60th anniversary with a fundraiser in Ken’s honor and decided the money raised would go to a scholarship fund. Friends, business partners, and community leaders were once again persuaded by Ken’s dry wit and arm-twisting to give generously to the cause of helping kids who need us most. We raised $50,000 in one night. Now this money will be distributed to teens with financial needs as they pursue their education after high school,” said Goldfarb.
A scholarship committee was formed to make sure the scholarship application, review, and award was done properly. The committee is comprised of board members and BGC staff. Every year BGC seniors who have been accepted into a university or higher education institution will be able to apply for the scholarship. The goal of the committee is to award two $1,500 scholarships every year.
