Back 2 School Means Back to Back Giving
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, our caring staff made sure students had a place to learn and grow through learning hubs. Schoolwork help was given, and supplies were provided for whatever project was need. Creativity flourished. Our doors remain open to the young people who need us most because of caring adults, generous donors, loyal community partners, and the perseverance of our kids.
This back to school season was like no other. Our members, like many students around the world, went back to school for the first time in over a year. Did you know 1 in 3 families cannot afford new back to school supplies and backpacks every year? With the average cost of school supplies being $488 per child, it’s no wonder community partners stepped up to meet the needs!
In July, Bank of America donated backpacks for all ages, filled with school supplies and lunch boxes. That same day, we received 250 backpacks from Chevron. Those Chevron backpacks were then filled with “Chevron Kits”-- bags of school supplies individually labeled for our members so they don’t spread germs through sharing.
Supplies also came from Fresno First Bank during the first week of August. Fresno First Bank partnered with us and the Foundation for Women Warriors Club.
On August 16th, SIMPBK distributed nearly 200 backpacks with school supplies in our Clubs. On August 18th, East Fresno Rotary stuffed 180 backpacks with school supplies and donated them as well.
In September, we will receive a donation from the local community thanks to Cricket Wireless and the back to school drive they hosted during the entire month of August! Senior Marketing Executive for Cricket Wireless says, “Cricket Wireless wants to thank the community for all the kind donations to our ‘Back to School Drive: Backpack & Supply Donations.’ Your generosity is truly the gift…together we have made a difference in a child and their families life!”
