The entire police department was invited to a BBQ at the East Fresno Club on July 14th. BBQ & Badges had an amazing turn out that surprised Unit Director Samantha Paredes. “When I invited them [Fresno PD] I didn’t expect so many to come. Knowing they have busy schedules, I am so grateful they were all here for our teens,” says Samantha. 13 officers attended BBQ & Badges.

According to Samantha and her staff, this was an opportunity for teens to seek mentorship from Fresno’s finest. It was also a great opportunity for the police officers in the area to get to the know the Club if they hadn’t already visited.

Chief of Police, Paco Balderrama (pictured above) enjoyed a meal with BGC teens and played  a game of pool—giving lessons when the opportunity came. Other police officers played a game of basketball and got to know BGC staff in the gymnasium, while others learned to play a popular game on My Future.com—an online learning platform for BGC members. CEO, Diane Carbray (pictured above) also attended this event. “Our relationship with Fresno PD is very important to us. They provide mentorship for our teens during the after school hours—when crime most occurs,” says Diane Carbray.

This is not the first time law enforcement has surprised and delighted Club members. An ongoing relationship with police in Fresno and surrounding areas makes a huge difference in the lives on our teen members who are seeking career paths, staying above the influence, and are curious about how to give back to the community.
